First a beautiful collar from Emma at Lulu Loves (Free pattern, how great is that!)
It just looked so lovely I wanted to see if I could make it. It was surprisingly easy, my crochet is fairly basic but I followed the pattern and this came out!
I did mine in white DK, and it took me about the length of a film to make (Iron Man 3 since you asked) Now I just need to find something to put it on. Do you ever make something "just because"?
Then, just the other day, I came across this lovely flower pattern from Alix at Kreativ-77. I love crocheting flowers, they just go so well together - like Marmite & Toast, Bread & Butter, Tea & Biscuits, Elizabeth Bennet & Mr Darcy....where was I?
I used this flecky blue-grey DK wool, I like the sort of Denim look it has. My hook was pretty enormous, a 5mm. I was just so eager to get started I just grabbed the first one I came to! My flower came out about 4.5" across and took me about an hour to make.
I've attached a safety pin on the back and used it to decorate a plain gift bag for a friend's birthday present.

I'm so glad the flower turned out great! It look gorgeous and just like mine! EEEK! I'm so excited!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by Alix, I'm so relieved that you approve. Your pattern was very easy to follow and came out just lovely, I'll definitely be doing it again.
DeleteGorgeous makes. I love the collar. I keep thinking I'll have a go at making one but like you said I don't really have reason. It's not something I would wear. The flower is lovely I really like the contrasting demin yarn and red button. Good luck with your longterm WIP, I have quite a few of those :)
ReplyDeleteAli xx
Thanks Ali, the collar was just too cute not to make, I'm even wondering if I could adapt it into a circle and use it to decorate a bag or something. Or perhaps I just need a lovely vintage look dress or top to pop it on.
DeleteI think most crafters have a long term WIP or two don't we? Got to have some thing that you can just pick up now and again to fill in the gaps between everything else!
I hear you on the small blanket and pile of circles - but when it's done it will be awesome!
ReplyDeleteCute flower! Your blanket is really pretty - love all the colors - can't wait to see it when its finished.
ReplyDeleteI love grey with a splash of colour in a crochet blanket, looks fab :D
ReplyDeleteLove your flower brooch Julie!
ReplyDeleteHello, that collar is amazing, I feel like so many things are becoming a lost art! I am sewing Tea Cozy's right now. I would love to take a professional sewing class one day. Enjoy all your lovely projects!
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Roxy
Ooo Roxy, Tea Cozy's sound lovely- I love anything tea related! I'd love to be better at pretty much everything I attempt, but sometimes it just nice just to have a go. I think it's important that we don't not try just because the results might not be perfect (I'd never do anything if that were the case!)
DeleteWhat a colourful batch of crochet loveliness! Its great to have a hooky project on the go!

ReplyDeleteLovely crochet projects, that collar will look good on a plain jane jumper or cardi. You could also have your flowers as brooches. Blanket looks fab too.
ReplyDeleteYou know I never thought about putting the collar on a cardie, that might be perfect, I have a round neck pinky red one that might work. Thanks
