I started with this fabulously red shirt. I have a whole bunch of these, donated to me by my brother when he changed jobs.
I was able to get 3 bags from the shirt.
I just made various sizes as Pam suggested.
The littlest one has the flap opening the wrong way really but this was the placket opening bit on the sleeve so because of where the seam was it couldn't be helped. I think it'll be fine.
These bags didn't use all the shirt, I also managed to get 3 metres of bias binding (with my fab new bias binding gadget) and a few flags for some more bunting that I'm making out of it.
They really are the simplest things to make. Pop over to Threading My Way to see just how easy it is.

I hope you get as much use from your bags as I have, Julie. I'm honoured to be first in the series and look forward to seeing what you make next. Awesome idea to use the rest of the shirt for bias binding!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you approve of my bags Pam!
DeleteGreat minds think alike, Julie. You shared your post almost the same time I shared a post about making tissue pack holders with your tutorial - 42 of them to be exact.
DeleteGreat minds indeed!!! I'm so impressed with all your tissue pouches and how lovely that you found a way to give them to a good cause, I'll have to check out if we have anything similar over here.
DeleteLook so nice. Pinning for the future.
ReplyDeleteThanks Carol. They are turning out to be really handy
DeleteWow, what a great idea! I have an old shirt with owls that seems to be the best candidate for this.
ReplyDeleteOoo, lovely. Yours will be cute as well as useful!
DeleteI am often given shirts by people. I make shirt skirts and use them for patchwork. Jo x
ReplyDeletei have a few more of these red shirts so I might try a skirt next, good idea thanks.
DeleteSuch a clever idea Julie! I never would have thought to use the natural openings in a shirt to make bags. Bravo to you and to Pam.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mary, well it's Pam's brilliant idea. I'm just showcasing it really and showing what a simple and brilliant idea it is!
DeleteI can attest that packing bags are indispensable when travelling. (I also like Threading My Way, too) Thanks for linking up with us at Creatively Crafty #ccbg :)
